DefendDomain compared to the alternative DRP solutions

DefendDomain finds web addresses made to look like yours and tells you when one is set up to send email or shows a copy of your website. If one is used against you, we get it taken down. We do not cover social media, app stores, marketplaces or the dark web, which the larger platforms do.

We call you within one working day. Or book a 30-minute demo: enough for us to give you a clear annual price for your domains.

Start with the surface your fraud arrives on

Brand protection suites (sometimes sold as digital risk protection, DRP) watch for your brand being impersonated outside your own systems. This is our read on eleven of them, including where each one is the better buy.

Look at your own incidents and ask where the last real one came from. That tells you which kind of product to buy.

What we are built for

Fraud arriving through web addresses that look like yours

A fake login page that collects your staff's passwords. Fake invoices sent from a lookalike of your domain or a supplier's. A copy of your checkout taking customers' card details. This is what we are built for.

A broad suite fits better

Abuse spread across many surfaces at once

Fake social accounts, counterfeit app listings, marketplace abuse, leaked credentials on the dark web. Buy a suite. ZeroFox, Bolster, CTM360 and Netcraft all cover considerably more ground than we do, and we would rather tell you that than sell you a product that does not fit.

An IP enforcement platform fits better

Counterfeit goods and trademark abuse

Fake products on marketplaces, piracy, unauthorised distribution. That is IP enforcement and it is a different discipline. Red Points and BrandShield are built for it. We are not, and we do not pretend otherwise.

Where we go deeper than the suites

What we do that a broad suite usually does not.

Lookalike domains that never host a website

A domain set up only to send fake invoices never hosts a page, so tools that look for phishing pages never see it. We check the email set-up (MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records) of every registered lookalike and flag each one that is set up to send email.

A marker on the pages you choose

The optional website marker is a small script or a 1×1 image on the pages you choose. When a copy of one of those pages loads on another address, it tells us where, and the alert comes with a screenshot and details of who registered and hosts the copy.

Your own wording, searched across the web

We take distinctive phrases from your site and search for them regularly, with AI checking for reworded and partial copies. That finds copies on free hosting platforms and on addresses that look nothing like yours.

New certificates for names like yours

Every security certificate (the padlock) is recorded in a public log when it is issued. We watch 100+ of those logs as entries appear and match each new certificate against your brand. A new certificate is often one of the last steps before a fake site goes live.

One confirmed attack helps find the next

When an attack is confirmed, we record the registrar, name servers and email providers it used. We then compare your other lookalikes against them, giving more weight to rarer matches, so a second domain from the same attacker stands out.

Unlimited takedowns, sent to up to 12 places

Unlimited on Pro and Enterprise. One click sends the evidence to up to 12 places at once, including the registrar, the host, the email provider, blocklists and browser warning lists. We check every hour whether the site is still online, follow up automatically, and keep watching in case it comes back.

A daily check of your own domains

We check your own domains and subdomains every day and grade their email security, DNS, certificates, website settings and exposed files from A to F. Most brand protection suites do not check your own domains, and most security rating tools do not look for impersonation, so this check sits alongside the lookalike monitoring.

That is four ways we spot impersonation (lookalike domains, new certificates, copies of your website, copies of your wording), plus the daily check of your own domains.

The field, and what each one is built around

Eleven vendors you are likely to shortlist alongside us. Each one links to a fuller comparison, including where that vendor is the better choice.

Based on each vendor's own public product material as of September 2026. Vendors change their products, so check anything that matters to you against their current documentation. All names are the trademarks of their respective owners. DefendDomain is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by any of them.

The facts your vendor review will ask for

About DefendDomain only. Check the same points with any vendor on your shortlist.

What we check
Around 500 lookalikes of each of your domains across 240+ domain endings, re-checked every hour. 100+ public certificate logs, watched as entries appear. Copies of your website and of your wording. Your own domains, checked daily and graded A to F.
Where a takedown goes
One click sends the evidence to up to 12 places at once: the registrar, the host, the email provider the domain sends through, an abuse-report network, blocklists and threat feeds, browser warning lists and search engines. Not every place applies to every attack: a domain with no website has nothing for a search engine to remove.
Follow-up
Automatic. We chase the host and registrar again at 48 and 96 hours, go to the registry at 120 and 168 hours, and tell you if nothing has moved after 30 days. Most takedowns take between 2 and 96 hours.
Who approves a takedown
On Pro, someone on your side confirms it is a live attack and approves it with one click. On Enterprise, our analysts check every alert and run the takedowns. Takedowns are unlimited on both.
Alerts
Email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, SMS, webhook, Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel and Wazuh.
Security and data
ISO 27001 certified (certificate 535732026) and Cyber Essentials certified. UK GDPR and EU GDPR. Our main database is hosted in London (AWS eu-west-2).
Which plan suits whom
Pro suits companies that approve takedowns themselves. Enterprise covers unlimited domains and brands, run by our analysts.
Price and contract
Pro is an annual plan with 5 domains included, priced by the number of domains you protect. Enterprise is priced to your needs. Both are annual: a 12-month minimum, renewing each year unless you give 30 days' notice. We do not publish the Pro price yet.

We call you within one working day to talk it through.

Questions buyers ask us

Which brand protection vendor should we choose?

Start with where your fraud actually arrives. If it comes through web addresses that look like yours, phishing your staff and your customers or redirecting supplier payments, choose a specialist that goes deep on lookalike domains. If your problem is spread across social platforms, app stores, marketplaces and the dark web, choose a suite that covers all of them and accept that it will be shallower on each. If counterfeit goods are the issue, choose an IP enforcement platform. Most companies do not need everything, and the widest platform is rarely the best answer to a specific problem.

Can we run DefendDomain alongside what we already have?

Yes. DefendDomain watches the lookalike domains and copies of your site that your email filters never see, so it does not replace them. Alerts go to the tools you already use: email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, SMS, webhook, Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel or Wazuh. Nothing has to be removed.

How much should domain impersonation protection cost?

Published contract values in this category run from around $5,000 a year at the entry end of a bundled suite to well over $300,000 for enterprise platforms. Those are published estimates rather than quotes, and every vendor prices to your footprint. DefendDomain Pro is an annual plan with 5 domains included, priced by the number of domains you protect, with unlimited takedowns. Enterprise is priced to your needs, with unlimited domains and brands. We do not publish the Pro price yet, so ask us for a pricing call.

What does a domain impersonation specialist cover that a suite does not?

Three things in particular. Lookalike domains that never host a website and exist only to send fake invoices or payroll emails, which we catch on their email records rather than on page content. Copies of your website, found by the optional website marker and by searching the web for your wording. And a daily check of your own domains, graded A to F, rather than only watching from outside.

Is a broader platform always safer?

Not if the breadth is bought and never used. A platform covering seven surfaces spreads its engineering across all seven. If your risk is concentrated on one of them, you are paying for six you will not switch on and getting less depth on the one that matters. A simple test is to look at your own incidents and ask where the last real one arrived.

Do we still need this if we already have email security?

Yes, because they work in different places. Email security checks the mail that reaches your own inbox. The fraud that costs the most often never passes through your systems at all: it goes to your customers and suppliers, or to your finance team from a domain that looks like a supplier. DMARC stops somebody faking a domain you own. It does nothing about a domain the attacker owns, which can pass its own email checks.

How quickly can DefendDomain be running against our domains?

There is nothing to install. Lookalike monitoring, certificate watching and the daily check of your own domains need only your domain names, and the website marker is optional. We help you set up alerts and integrations when you start. To see what we find before you talk to anyone, run the free scan: it checks 150+ lookalikes of your domain in a couple of minutes and emails you the report.

Free scan. No account, no card details.

See your own exposure before you shortlist anybody

Whoever you buy from, it is worth knowing which lookalikes of your domain are already registered. The free scan checks 150+ of them in a couple of minutes and emails you the report.

  • Typos, other endings and added words, such as yourcompany-invoices.com
  • Which ones are registered, and which are set up to send email as you
  • The report in your inbox, usually in a couple of minutes. No account, no card details, no sales call.

When the scan is done we ask for a work email to send the report to. Gmail, Outlook.com and other free addresses are not accepted.
