DefendDomain compared to Bolster
Bolster is a multi-channel digital risk platform that covers domains alongside social media, app stores, marketplaces and the dark web.
We call you within one working day. Or book a 30-minute demo: enough for us to give you a clear annual price for your domains.
Bolster at a glance
Bolster is a Digital Risk Protection (DRP) platform: automated detection and takedown across domains, social media, app stores and marketplaces, with the domain layer one surface among several.
DefendDomain covers lookalike domains and copies of your website only, in more depth. Look at your last four incidents. If they arrived on a domain that looked like yours, depth on domains matters most. If they were spread across social accounts, app listings and marketplaces, Bolster is built for that and we are not.
- Bolster is built around
- AI-first, multi-channel digital risk protection
- Typically sold to
- Mid-market to enterprise
- Typical annual cost
- Quote only, no public pricing
DefendDomain and Bolster, side by side
The short version, before the case for either of us. Every claim in the Bolster column comes from their own published material.
What the product is built around
DefendDomain
Finding web addresses made to look like yours and getting them taken down: lookalike domains, new certificates, copies of your website and of your wording, plus a daily check of your own domains
Bolster
Digital risk protection across web, social media, app stores, marketplaces and the dark web, with domains as one of several modules
Lookalike domains that never host a website
DefendDomain
We check the email set-up (MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records) of every registered lookalike. When one is set up to send email, we flag it, even if it has no website
Bolster
Checking typo domains (typosquats) for MX records is a published capability, and they describe scanning registrations continuously. Checking the rest of a lookalike's email set-up (SPF, DKIM and DMARC records as well as MX) and flagging when it can send email is not listed in their public material as of September 2026
When someone copies your website
DefendDomain
The optional website marker (a small script or a 1×1 image on the pages you choose) reports when a copy of a page loads somewhere else, and we search the web for distinctive phrases from your site
Bolster
Computer vision and logo recognition are published capabilities for spotting brand assets in use. A website marker on your pages, and web searches for your wording, are not listed in their public material as of September 2026
Takedowns
DefendDomain
Unlimited on Pro and Enterprise. One click sends the evidence to up to 12 places at once, with automatic follow-ups to the host, registrar and registry
Bolster
Automated takedowns are a headline capability. Volume and packaging are not published, so check your quote
Your own domains
DefendDomain
A daily check of your own domains (email security, DNS and takeover risk, certificates, website settings, exposed files), graded A to F, with a fix for each finding
Bolster
Not part of the published platform. Their coverage points outward at abuse, not inward at how your own domains are configured
How you buy it
DefendDomain
Pro: an annual plan priced by the number of domains you protect, where you approve each takedown. Enterprise: priced to your needs, with our analysts running the takedowns
Bolster
Quote-led. Pricing is quote only and no price list is published

The facts your vendor review will ask for
About DefendDomain only. Check the same points with any vendor on your shortlist.
- What we check
- Around 500 lookalikes of each of your domains across 240+ domain endings, re-checked every hour. 100+ public certificate logs, watched as entries appear. Copies of your website and of your wording. Your own domains, checked daily and graded A to F.
- Where a takedown goes
- One click sends the evidence to up to 12 places at once: the registrar, the host, the email provider the domain sends through, an abuse-report network, blocklists and threat feeds, browser warning lists and search engines. Not every place applies to every attack: a domain with no website has nothing for a search engine to remove.
- Follow-up
- Automatic. We chase the host and registrar again at 48 and 96 hours, go to the registry at 120 and 168 hours, and tell you if nothing has moved after 30 days. Most takedowns take between 2 and 96 hours.
- Who approves a takedown
- On Pro, someone on your side confirms it is a live attack and approves it with one click. On Enterprise, our analysts check every alert and run the takedowns. Takedowns are unlimited on both.
- Alerts
- Email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, SMS, webhook, Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel and Wazuh.
- Security and data
- ISO 27001 certified (certificate 535732026) and Cyber Essentials certified. UK GDPR and EU GDPR. Our main database is hosted in London (AWS eu-west-2).
- Which plan suits whom
- Pro suits companies that approve takedowns themselves. Enterprise covers unlimited domains and brands, run by our analysts.
- Price and contract
- Pro is an annual plan with 5 domains included, priced by the number of domains you protect. Enterprise is priced to your needs. Both are annual: a 12-month minimum, renewing each year unless you give 30 days' notice. We do not publish the Pro price yet.
We call you within one working day to talk it through.

What Bolster does well, and who should buy them
Taken from what Bolster publishes about its own product. If this is the shape of your problem, they are a reasonable buy and we will say so.
Genuine channel breadth
Their published module list runs across web, social platforms, app stores, marketplaces and the dark web. If fake accounts on social platforms and counterfeit app listings are live problems for you, that breadth is real and we do not cover it.
Automation as the headline
Bolster leads publicly on automated detection and automated response at speed. Running takedowns by hand is slow, so automation is a reasonable thing to build a platform around.
Consumer-facing brands at volume
If your abuse problem is high-volume and spread across many surfaces, which is the shape most consumer brands have, a platform designed for that volume across all of them is a sensible buy.
Where DefendDomain goes deeper
We work on one problem: web addresses made to look like yours, and copies of your website. We find them, tell you which can send email or show a copy of your site, and get them taken down when they are used against you.
More depth on lookalike domains
We work on one surface. For each of your domains we generate around 500 lookalikes an attacker is likely to use, across 240+ domain endings, and re-check them every hour for new registrations, websites and email set-up.
The lookalike with no website
They publish that they scan domain registrations, which we do too. The difference is what we do with a registration that never turns into a page. A domain registered to send a dozen fake invoice emails hosts nothing, so there is no content to judge. We check its email set-up (MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records) and alert you when it can send email, even though it has no website.
One confirmed attack helps find the next
When an attack is confirmed, we record the registrar, name servers and email providers it used. Your other lookalikes are compared against them, giving more weight to rarer matches, so a second domain from the same attacker stands out.
What each of us costs
Most vendors in this category do not publish a price list. This is how each of us charges.
- What Bolster publishes
- Bolster does not publish a price list. Their published product range is organised by surface, so the scope you switch on is the scope you pay for.
- What moves the number
- Watch for two things in any quote here: whether takedowns are unlimited or drawn from an allowance, and whether the surfaces you are unlikely to use are bundled into the base anyway.
- How DefendDomain charges
- No takedown allowance and no add-on to buy when it runs out: takedowns are unlimited on Pro and Enterprise. Pro is priced by the number of domains you protect, and we do not publish the price yet either.
Choose Bolster if
- Fake social accounts, counterfeit app listings or marketplace abuse are live problems alongside your domain problem.
- You are a consumer brand with abuse spread across many surfaces and you want one console for all of them.
- Dark web credential monitoring is part of the mandate you are buying against.
- Channel coverage matters more to you than how deep any single channel goes.
Choose DefendDomain if
- Domain impersonation is the problem, and the other surfaces are noise on your particular risk register.
- You need to know when a lookalike with no website is set up to send email. There is no page on it for a scanner to find.
- You want the website marker on the pages you choose, plus web searches for your own wording, to find copies of your site.
- You want your own domains graded as well as watched, with an A to F scorecard you can take to a board.
What moving actually involves
There is no software to install and no data to move. Lookalike monitoring, certificate watching and the daily check of your own domains need only your domain names. The website marker is optional: a small script or a 1×1 image on the pages you choose.
Step 1
Ask what you actually used
If you are already on Bolster, pull the last twelve months of detections and sort them by surface. If one surface dominates, that tells you whether you are buying breadth you use or breadth you only pay for.
Step 2
Compare on the same domains, not on feature lists
We will run against your real brand alongside whatever you have in place. Two detection sets on the same domains over the same fortnight tells you more than any comparison table, including this one.
Step 3
Move at renewal, not mid-term
There is no technical migration to do. Detection is ours, evidence packs are generated fresh, and takedowns in flight stay with whoever filed them, so the only date that matters is your renewal.
Questions buyers ask us about Bolster
We are looking for a Bolster alternative. What would we gain and what would we lose?
You would lose surfaces. Bolster covers social media, app stores, marketplaces and the dark web, and we cover none of them. What you would gain is depth on lookalike domains: an alert when a lookalike with no website is set up to send email, the optional website marker and web searches for your wording to find copies of your site, 100+ public certificate logs watched as entries appear, and unlimited takedowns with no allowance. If your incident history is concentrated on domains, that is a good trade. If it is spread across five surfaces, it is not.
Is a specialist better than a multi-channel digital risk platform?
It depends entirely on which problem you have. If your abuse is genuinely spread across social platforms, app stores and marketplaces, a multi-channel platform is the right buy and we are not it. If the fraud that actually costs you money arrives through a domain that looks like yours, a platform that spreads its engineering across six surfaces will be shallower on that one than a platform that spends all of it there.
What does DefendDomain do that a phishing-detection engine does not?
A detection engine has to see something to judge it, which normally means a page with content on it. The domains that do the most financial damage host nothing at all. They are registered, given mail records and used to send a handful of invoice or payroll emails to your finance team or your suppliers. We check the email set-up of every registered lookalike, so you hear about a domain being set up to send email, which can be before its first message goes out.
Can DefendDomain cover social media impersonation?
No, and we would rather say so. Social media, dark web and marketplace enforcement are deliberately out of scope. If those matter to you, buy a suite that covers them. What we do is the domain layer, and we go further down it than a platform that also has to cover five other surfaces.
