Different problems, compared

DefendDomain compared to BrandShield

BrandShield is a brand protection platform weighted towards trademark enforcement and counterfeit removal for consumer and retail brands.

We call you within one working day. Or book a 30-minute demo: enough for us to give you a clear annual price for your domains.

BrandShield at a glance

BrandShield is built for trademark and brand enforcement teams, a related discipline to Digital Risk Protection (DRP) rather than the same one.

DefendDomain is a security product aimed at the domains criminals register to defraud your customers, your staff and your suppliers, so the two mostly serve different buyers inside a business.

What BrandShield does well, and who should buy them

Taken from what BrandShield publishes about its own product. If this is the shape of your problem, they are a reasonable buy and we will say so.

Counterfeit and marketplace enforcement

Removing fake listings at volume across marketplaces is operationally hard and they have built a business on doing it. If counterfeit goods are eating your revenue, that is the capability you need and it is not ours.

Trademark and IP workflow

Their platform is built for legal and IP teams as much as security teams, which matters if enforcement in your business runs through counsel rather than through a SOC.

Consumer and retail brand experience

Their published material skews to consumer brands with high counterfeit exposure. For that shape of business, the platform is built around the right problem.

They publish for smaller buyers too

Unusually for this category, they run a page aimed at small and medium businesses rather than only at enterprises. If you are sizing vendors by who will take your call, that is worth knowing.

They also watch registrations and certificates

Their domain protection material describes monitoring new domain registrations, DNS records and certificates across every extension, and detecting lookalikes before they are used. Several vendors detect lookalikes early, not only us, and we would rather say so.

Where DefendDomain goes deeper

We work on one problem: web addresses made to look like yours, and copies of your website. We find them, tell you which can send email or show a copy of your site, and get them taken down when they are used against you.

A security problem, not an IP problem

Most lookalike domains do their damage as fraud rather than as a trademark matter. The harm lands as a cloned login page taking your staff credentials, a fake invoice redirecting a supplier payment, or a customer handing card details to a copy of your checkout.

Email set-up, and the domains that host nothing

We check the email set-up (MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records) of every registered lookalike and flag each one that is set up to send email. A domain registered only to send a handful of fake invoices never hosts a page, so nothing that looks for content will find it.

The website marker, and searches for your wording

The optional website marker, a small script or a 1×1 image on the pages you choose, reports when a copy of one of those pages loads on another address. We also search the web for distinctive phrases from your site. Neither is listed in their public material as of September 2026.

Your own domains, graded

We check your own domains and subdomains daily for email security, DNS and takeover risk, certificates, website settings and exposed files, and grade them A to F with a fix for each finding. Brand enforcement platforms look outward only.

Choose BrandShield if

  • Counterfeit listings on marketplaces are costing you real revenue.
  • Enforcement in your business runs through legal and IP rather than through security.
  • You are a consumer or retail brand where trademark abuse is the dominant risk.
  • You need paid search abuse, social media and rogue mobile apps covered as well as domains.
  • The same brand abuse case tends to surface on a marketplace, a social account and a domain at once, and you want it handled as one case rather than three.

Choose DefendDomain if

  • The threat on your register is fraud against your customers, staff and suppliers rather than counterfeit goods.
  • You are B2B, so marketplace counterfeits are irrelevant but a fake invoice from a lookalike supplier domain is not.
  • You want to know when a lookalike with no website is set up to send email.
  • You want the website marker and web searches for your wording to find copies of your site.
  • You want your own email authentication, DNS, TLS and web hardening graded as well as watched.

DefendDomain and BrandShield, side by side

What the product is built around

DefendDomain

Finding web addresses made to look like yours and getting them taken down: lookalike domains, new certificates, copies of your website and of your wording, plus a daily check of your own domains

BrandShield

Brand protection weighted towards trademark enforcement and counterfeit removal across marketplaces, social and paid search

Lookalike domains that never host a website

DefendDomain

We check the email set-up (MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records) of every registered lookalike. When one is set up to send email, we flag it, even if it has no website

BrandShield

Their material describes monitoring new domain registrations, DNS records and certificates across every extension, and detecting lookalikes before they are used. Checking a lookalike's email set-up (MX, SPF, DKIM and DMARC records) and flagging when it can send email is not listed in their public material as of September 2026

When someone copies your website

DefendDomain

The optional website marker (a small script or a 1×1 image on the pages you choose) reports when a copy of a page loads somewhere else, and we search the web for distinctive phrases from your site

BrandShield

Brand asset and logo detection across channels is a published strength. A website marker on your pages, and web searches for your wording, are not listed in their public material as of September 2026

Takedowns

DefendDomain

Unlimited on Pro and Enterprise. One click sends the evidence to up to 12 places at once, with automatic follow-ups to the host, registrar and registry

BrandShield

Your own domains

DefendDomain

A daily check of your own domains (email security, DNS and takeover risk, certificates, website settings, exposed files), graded A to F, with a fix for each finding

BrandShield

Not part of the published platform. The coverage points outward at abuse of your brand, not inward at your own configuration

How you buy it

DefendDomain

Pro: an annual plan priced by the number of domains you protect, where you approve each takedown. Enterprise: priced to your needs, with our analysts running the takedowns

BrandShield

Sales-led, with pages aimed at both enterprises and smaller businesses. Pricing is quote only and no price list is published

What we check
Around 500 lookalikes of each of your domains across 240+ domain endings, re-checked every hour. 100+ public certificate logs, watched as entries appear. Copies of your website and of your wording. Your own domains, checked daily and graded A to F.
Where a takedown goes
One click sends the evidence to up to 12 places at once: the registrar, the host, the email provider the domain sends through, an abuse-report network, blocklists and threat feeds, browser warning lists and search engines. Not every place applies to every attack: a domain with no website has nothing for a search engine to remove.
Follow-up
Automatic. We chase the host and registrar again at 48 and 96 hours, go to the registry at 120 and 168 hours, and tell you if nothing has moved after 30 days. Most takedowns take between 2 and 96 hours.
Who approves a takedown
On Pro, someone on your side confirms it is a live attack and approves it with one click. On Enterprise, our analysts check every alert and run the takedowns. Takedowns are unlimited on both.
Alerts
Email, Slack, Microsoft Teams, SMS, webhook, Splunk, Microsoft Sentinel and Wazuh.
Security and data
ISO 27001 certified (certificate 535732026) and Cyber Essentials certified. UK GDPR and EU GDPR. Our main database is hosted in London (AWS eu-west-2).
Which plan suits whom
Pro suits companies that approve takedowns themselves. Enterprise covers unlimited domains and brands, run by our analysts.
Price and contract
Pro is an annual plan with 5 domains included, priced by the number of domains you protect. Enterprise is priced to your needs. Both are annual: a 12-month minimum, renewing each year unless you give 30 days' notice. We do not publish the Pro price yet.

We call you within one working day to talk it through.

What each of us costs

Most vendors in this category do not publish a price list. This is how each of us charges.

What BrandShield publishes
BrandShield does not publish a price list. Reported annual values run from roughly $65,000 to $329,000, from buyer and analyst estimates rather than a vendor quote.
What moves the number
Enforcement platforms tend to price against the volume of infringement you have and the number of marketplaces and jurisdictions in scope.
How DefendDomain charges
Takedowns are unlimited on Pro and Enterprise and cost nothing extra each time. Pro is priced by the number of domains you protect, and we do not publish the price yet.

What moving actually involves

There is no software to install and no data to move. Lookalike monitoring, certificate watching and the daily check of your own domains need only your domain names. The website marker is optional: a small script or a 1×1 image on the pages you choose.

  1. Step 1

Work out whose budget this is

If the brief came from legal or brand, an enforcement platform is the right shape and we are not a replacement for it. If it came from security, the brief is impersonation and phishing, and that is ours.

  2. Step 2

Most companies that need both, buy both

These are not competing line items. Counterfeit enforcement and domain impersonation defence solve different problems for different teams, and running one does not cover the other.

  3. Step 3

Try us on the security half

Run the free scan on your own domain. In a couple of minutes it shows which lookalikes are registered and which can send email, which tells you whether the impersonation half of your problem is covered by what you already have.

Questions buyers ask us about BrandShield

Is BrandShield an alternative to DefendDomain, or a different category?

Mostly a different category, and treating them as interchangeable leads to a bad purchase either way. BrandShield is built for trademark and brand enforcement: counterfeits on marketplaces, IP abuse, paid search abuse. DefendDomain is built for impersonation: the domain registered to phish your staff, clone your checkout or invoice your finance team. Companies with both problems generally run both. If you only have budget for one, the deciding question is whether your last real scare was a fake product or a fake login page.

Is domain impersonation a legal problem or a security problem?

Both, but the money is usually on the security side. A trademark process can eventually recover a domain. It will not help the supplier who has already paid a fake invoice or the member of staff who has already typed their credentials into a copy of your login page. That damage happens in the days after the domain goes live, which is why the useful work is finding it early and getting it taken down.

Does DefendDomain handle counterfeit products?

No. Marketplace enforcement and counterfeit takedown are deliberately out of scope, and a platform built for that will do it better than we would. We cover lookalike domains, copies of your website and of your wording, new certificates for names like yours, and the set-up of your own domains.

We are B2B. Does brand protection apply to us at all?

The counterfeit half of it usually does not. The fraud half very much does. B2B companies invoice customers for meaningful amounts, which makes a lookalike of your domain valuable to somebody who wants a supplier payment redirected. Most of our case studies are about a copied website or a fake invoice, not a counterfeit listing.

Free scan. No account, no card details.

Find out which half of the problem you actually have

A free scan of your own domain shows whether lookalikes of it are already registered and which of them can send email. It takes a couple of minutes, and the report comes by email.

  • Typos, other endings and added words, such as yourcompany-invoices.com
  • Which ones are registered, and which are set up to send email as you
  • The report in your inbox, usually in a couple of minutes. No account, no card details, no sales call.

When the scan is done we ask for a work email to send the report to. Gmail, Outlook.com and other free addresses are not accepted.
